Summary: Batman and the Justice League had been dealing with a time-bending, dimensional-hopping villain for the last week, and only just managed to apprehend both him and his alternate versions of himself.
What Batman had not been expecting was for another time vortex to open up in Gotham.
What made everything so much worse was the individual that the vortex spat out.

Chapter 1
Stand up
Bruce cracked his neck as he took a moment to stretch.
He'd been typing up a report for the Justice League for the past 40 minutes, detailing everything that had happened in their most recent mission.
It had been a long week filled with a lot magical time-bending related incidents. Zatanna had warned him that there could still be residual magic left over and that it would take time for the remnants of the original time vortexes to fully dissipate, but she'd assured him that she would keep a close eye on things and would let him know if anything changed.
He didn't really trust that things wouldn't turn south at some point, so he was sat at the computer within the Batcave, monitoring for any magical signatures in the event the strange time-magic that the most recent supervillain of the week had been using decided to flair up again.
It had been tiring, dealing with that particular villain, who'd aptly named himself Timewalker. He'd been incredibly strong with his use of magic, and had used it to create portals to other timelines and dimensions, allowing him to access various different versions of himself, who of course had the same exact powers he did, and were willing to help him go up against the Justice League. He'd essentially summoned an entire army of himself, and that army was capable of continuing that line of magic. It had been a logistical nightmare. You took down one of them, and they would just summon two more of themselves.
It had been like a fucked up physical manifestation of that one Björk song- though Batman doubted that what the Justice League had been dealing with the past week had been what Björk meant when she wrote the song.
In the end, good old social engineering had been Timewalker's downfall. Turning himself against himself hadn't been as difficult to achieve as Batman had thought, and it had ensured the safety of their planet as the various different versions of Timewalker turned away, and left the Earth for good to go back to whatever dimensional hole they'd all crawled out of.
He'd wanted to sigh a breath of relief, but had known that the work wasn't entirely done. There could've still been some versions of the villain left on Earth, and the League scoured the entire city to ensure that they'd caught them all.
But even when they'd finally caught all of them, Batman had still been on edge. He was still looking for more of them.
There were times when the people he worked with would tell him that he was too cautious. Too obsessive, too suspicious of others. Too much of a "worry wort", as Alfred liked to put it. That his inability to just let it go would end up hurting him, eventually.
It was times like these where he proved them all wrong.
One of the monitors lit up in warning, and he quickly saved his report and looked over to see that there was a large spike in magical energy within Gotham. It matched the same exact signatures he'd gotten earlier in the week. Another time vortex, down at the docks. He immediately stood up and rushed towards the Batmobile.
He drove out of the cave like a bat out of hell. If there was another one of this villain's doppelgängers about, he wanted to deal with them as soon as possible. He didn't want another repeat of this week's insanity.
When Batman got to the docks, all was quiet. There was very little activity, aside from some late night dock workers doing their last shift before the morning. No signs of any villainous sorcerers, and whatever magic he'd had a signal on had dissipated incredibly fast. Whatever, or whomever it was, had left the docks almost immediately as they had arrived.
It didn't mean Batman wasn't going to search the place, but he had very little to go off of besides some residual magical energy- which he wasn't equipped to read, only to detect.
He carefully inspected the docks for any clues as to where Timewalker's doppelgänger had run off to, and found only a small scrap of burnt, black fabric, and some boot prints found in the mud.
Based on the feel of the fabric, it was kevlar, though of a lighter grade than his own. The boot prints indicated that the villain was wearing some type of heeled boot, with much thicker heels than your usual stiletto. The spacing between the boot prints showed that they had been running away, toward the center of the city.
Batman trailed after them as quickly as he could- time was not on his side, and he needed to apprehend the dimension-hopping villain before he could do anymore damage. Well...more damage than what Timewalker's other counterparts had already accomplished.
As he followed the trail, it was clear that he was moving towards a rather...particular part of Gotham- the red light district. There were always plenty of people mingling outside, negotiating their business and enjoying the atmosphere, if not actively engaging in salacious behaviours, and it was a good way to lose someone in a crowd. Whether this version of the villain knew that or not was another thing, so Batman decided to take advantage, and left the streets below to hop from rooftop to rooftop, hoping to get the high ground over him.
It didn't take long to finally make it to the heart of the red light district, now it was just a matter of observation. He thankfully already knew what the man looked like, even if he only had an idea of what his current clothes were- dark kevlar and chunky heeled boots- so he didn't believe it would take too long to track him down.
Before he could even think of getting out his binoculars to take a closer look, he saw a shadow flitter about in the corner of his eye.
Something was on the rooftops with him. Watching him.
Could it be Timewalker? Or somebody else?
He crouched down low and changed positions, jumping to another building and hiding behind a large air vent as he re-assessed his surroundings.
There was nothing clearly in front of him, which meant that whoever he'd seen was still in the same general area he'd seen them last. He didn't dare peak his head out in case they had a firearm and decided to shoot...but he could reposition himself so he was behind them, if he jumped off the building and did so from below.
It would mean there was a risk of them seeing him, but it was his best bet at catching them off-guard.
Batman silently leapt off the building, using his cape to glide down to the ground below. He quietly ran through the different alleyways, making sure to stay within the shadows, before he used his grapple to traverse back up to the top of the building.
What he saw made him take pause- he remained hanging on the parapet of the rooftop, keeping his head low.
What he saw wasn't the villain at all. In fact, it was much, much worse.
It was another Batman.
