Last month, in May, my uncle saw another bird that flew into his window. It was a small bird that fit into the palm of his hand: a Shining Bronze-Cuckoo. It ended up flying away, thankfully, but it seems as though his window attracts a lot of fast-flying, small birds. Of course, it is not the birds fault. They cannot see glass properly, so of course they fly straight into it. I wonder if there's any way to stop it from happening. I guess I will have to look that up.

It has been such a long time since I've made a bird journal entry that its been about 2 years so far. I just wasn't outside a lot. Now that I have a cat, I'm outside a lot more than I was previously. The birds have started breeding, and as such I've seen a lot of interesting things regarding bird. Mostly the Magpies though, since they breed around about this time.

The Magpies have been getting into aerial fights with the small invasive Sparrows, and even the native Currawongs. My cat, Jerry, even got swooped by one of the Magpies when he was kinda out in the open, though they've notably been nice to me and like following me around (they think I have food, lol). I've also helped the female magpie out with her search for nesting material. you know how you get the long thick pieces of grass on the sides of like footpaths, and that's where the normal blades of grass frow from? She was tugging on that, as she wanted it for her nest, but she abandoned it when she couldn't get it out of the ground. I went over and pulled it out of the dirt and put it on the ground ahead of where she was walking. She zoomed straight for it the moment I walked away, but she seemed to think it was not really good enough for her nest after all, as she left it there after grabbing it and inspecting it with her beak for a few seconds. It's the thought that counts, I suppose.
