It’s been a while since I’ve made a bird journal update, but I’ve been quite busy with other things and haven’t had time for bird watching, and haven’t seen any interesting birds at all. However, there are two things I want to talk about. First thing I wanna talk about: My mum saw a domestic Pekin Duck by the creek. Both my mum and I think it’s an escaped pet that now lives among wild, native ducks. Most wild ducks aren’t white like some domestic species tend to be. It’s also not the first domestic duck that we’ve seen around here that’s an escapee. Before I even started this bird journal, me and my mum saw a large Black Muscovy Duck down by the creek. It took a while for us to figure out the type of duck it was, but we figured it out eventually.
The second thing I want to talk about is one of my neighbours (not the one that owns Jerry). She lives on the same block as us, and she has a beautiful garden with lots of different native plants, and recently she came over to our place to give my mum some plant cuttings, and was telling her about all the different bird species that she finds in her garden, and she apparently gets birds that neither myself or my mum have seen in this are before, and they only show up at our neighbour’s place! She lives really close by, so it seems almost strange that we’ve never seen these birds before, but I think it might also give me new opportunities for bird watching!
