bonesbeetle asked me on tumblr: TOP 5 BUGS?!
I responded, saying: I will mostly be talking about native Australian bugs that I have personally encountered in my area, just so that I can make things more interesting, and so that other people can see cool Aussie bugs. Also this post comes with pictures! No spiders tho I’m scared of em sorry 😅
5. Christmas beetle - I just like how shiny they are :3 every time beetle season comes around I have to pick Christmas beetles out of my mum’s hair whenever she’s out in the garden LMAO

4. Native bees! - I do not know the precise specie(s) of the native bees that lives in my area, but they look a lot like this picture of a Tetragonula Carbonaria! They are small and do not sting, and are very cute. They get stuck in our house aallll the time but it’s like super easy to get them out. I just place em in a lil cup or container and let em out, because they are always on the window trying to get out.

3. Common slater! - This is the one invasive species on this list. I just see em a lot in the garden and they’re kinda cute lol. I also see them inside a lot for some reason? Like the native bee I just put them in a cup and take em outside.

2. Cephonodes Hylas (Pellucid hawk moth) - We have a few different types of hawk moths in my area, but these are the coolest looking ones in my opinion! All of the hawk moths also hover like hummingbirds!

1. Papilio Aegus (orchid swallowtail butterfly) - These are some huggggeee fucking butterflies! These butterflies are the biggest ones we get in our area, and the specific picture I’ve shown is of a female, as the males and females actually look different. I’ve seen the females more frequently in my area than males.
