Hypolimnas Bolina

New butterfly timeee!!!! I managed to get a photo of this beautiful Hypolimnas bolina female, that was resting on a bush in the front garden.

Originally I was not certain if Hypolimnas bolina was the correct identification, as the best photo I had was THIS ONE

But also because the h. bolina female can look a variety of different ways based and the images I saw of the butterfly online, and that plus the bad photo made things a little difficult. but after the better photo I got plus careful inspection of the underside of the butterfly showing a brown underside (which matches the ID for a female h. bolina), that made me a lot more certain about my ID!

There were two of the butterflies today, and it seemed they were flying together, so maybe they were trying to mate? I didn’t get a good look at the other one. There was also my good friend the female papilio aegus (the big ass butterfly i saw before) who seemed a bit playful today because she was flying around me and my mum’s heads and just in general getting close to us and wasn’t scared of us at all. I think she is super awesome and I love her and her bigness. She does have a little nick in one of her wings now, but it’s been rather windy as of late so I’m not surprised. I can see her outside my window right now :333 💜💜 I hate that butterflies live such short lives. I hope to see another p. aegus in the future after she has passed.
